Long-term changes in spontaneous bursting of the PD neuron in control and decentralized STG. A, Intracellular recordings from PD neurons in control (stnintact, left) and decentralized (right) STG on days 1 and 6 in culture. Recordings are from PD neurons in four different STG. B, Cycle frequency measurements from indicated number of preparations in the two experimental conditions on days 1 and 6. Cycle frequency in PD neurons from control preparations was similar on days 1 and 6 (open bars; ANOVA followed by a Bonferroni rank sum test; p > 0.05), whereas PD neuron cycle frequency was significantly higher on day 6 than on day 1 in decentralized STG (black bars; ANOVA followed by a Bonferroni rank sum test; p < 0.05). By day 6, average PD cycle frequency in decentralized preparations was 38% of the frequency in control preparations.
