Slit-induced asymmetry corresponds with Slit-induced inhibition of migration. SVZ explants were cultured in Matrigel in the proximity of aggregates that contained the same total number of cells (1 × 106) but a varying proportion of Slit-expressing cells, from 5 × 104 to 1 × 106 cells. Migration from SVZ explants decreases (A) and becomes increasingly asymmetric (B) with the increasing number of Slit cells in the aggregates. The graph depicts data from a representative experiment that was replicated three times. At least 24 explants were used for each treatment. The error bars represent SEM.
