Avian Cx26 is the ortholog to mammalian Cx26. Alignment of chicken connexin 26 (cCx26) and mouse connexin 26 (mCx26) sequences using the CLUSTAL algorithm revealed a 75% amino acid identity. cCx26 and mCx30 have an overall homology of 71%; however, length and sequence motifs of the C-terminal identify cCx30 as the ortholog of mammalian Cx30.
