Figure 2.

Development of OS in PMLS and V1. A, Development of Lori on a per-animal basis for V1 and PMLS. As in Figure 1D, each circle indicates the mean Lori value across all SU that could be isolated in an animal, as a function of the animal's age. The circle size indicates the per-animal SEM for cases with three or more neurons. The per-animal SEM scale again differs from the scale used for the y-axis and is shown in the legend. Colored bands correspond to mean ± 1 SEM (animals P40 and older). B, C, Cumulative Lori distributions for PMLS and V1. Following the same format as Figure 1, E and F, data were divided into three age groups. The legend in the right corner indicates the outcome of rank-sum tests between the different groups (dashed line, p > 0.01; solid line, p < 0.01). D, Normalized Lori as a function of age for both areas. Data were divided into 2 d age bins from P29 to 38 and an adult bin from P40 to 52. Bins were normalized (individually for each area) to range from 0 for eye opening to 1 in adult animals. Data for each bin are plotted at the middle of each age bin. Error bars indicate SEM; the same format as Figure 1G. E, Normalized Ldir and Lori curves for PMLS (left) and V1 (right), replotting the same curves from Figures 1G and 2D to allow for better comparison of intra-areal development.
